A Year of Love: Our Experience in Turkey

The past year working in Turkey has been an incredible adventure filled with travel, professional development, and a renewed sense of purpose. But most of all, it has been filled with love.

Today is our last Thursday as Turkish residents and, although pictures alone can’t adequately show how this experience has impacted us, they will show you how this foreign land soon became our beloved home…all thanks to the people who showered us with love and kindness. From the bakery employee who gave us a whole cake for free after our first conversation with him to our coworkers and students who welcomed us into their home to the mother of a guy who lives in our building who made us homemade Turkish food because she ‘adopted us as her son and daughter’ (Yes! She doesn’t even live in our building!) to the countless strangers we encountered who treated us with more kindness than we could have ever imagined…the people we met–Turkish and foreign–made this an experience we’ll never forget.

So thank you to everyone who has been a part of our lives here in Ankara. Your kindness, generosity and warmth will stay with me forever.
