The month of October was an important one as it brought about new opportunities and adventures into my life. After a series of inspiring events, I’m feeling truly inspired and excited for the future.

The month began with a Longing to Travel Tour of Turkey, which took a group of 1st timers to Cappadocia, Ankara and Istanbul. This trip was unique in that one traveler had never left the USA before (and before you ask, yes, he loved Turkey!); one traveler took on her own personal food challenge and tried every single street food option Istanbul had to offer; and two of the travelers got engaged while on this trip! Reflecting back on the past decade, I can honestly say that introducing first-timers to a new country and culture is one of the most fulfilling things I have had the pleasure of doing on a regular basis.
The middle of the month brought about a very inspiring and motivating research seminar in a city I’d never been to: Milan. Not only was I able to connect with a global network of professionals in my field, but I was able to see my former Danish roommate (who happened to be vacationing in Milan that weekend) for the first time in 3 years!
Moving Forward with Purpose
The end of October was back to life as usual in Ankara, but this time with a renewed sense of purpose and focus. I have incorporated a habit of reading more academic articles in my field (international education), reconnecting with past colleagues, networking and most importantly, taking my own advice and revising my global life plan to reflect my new priorities.
All in all, 2014 has proven to be a very important year for me and my family…and 2015 is sure to bring about even more changes, adventures and opportunities. Until then, I’m busy passing out business cards, following my global life plan and making the most of this unique opportunity to live and work in Turkey.
